On The Trail
On The Trail
Citizen Kate attempts to get to the Democratic and Republican conventions by winning MySpace and YouTube contests.
So I thought that the best way to get to the conventions was to win a contest. But it was a little like winning the lotto. A mystery.
I submitted two videos. One to MySpace to become a correspondent for the morning MSNBC show. They were selecting one person for the DNC and one for the RNC. I recorded my response on the streets of Chicago just moments after the Green Party National Convention. (They were super welcoming to me. I figured it was a sign.)
But it wasn’t a sign. After 5 days of user voting and my video being in the top 3 highest rated, I didn’t make the cut for the top 5. That was disappointing. But I moved on...
To the next competition. One more shot with YouTube. This time I receive a personal email (with 20 other people) to submit a video of either: Why you’re a democrat? Or why your a republican? Again. I went to the streets. And decided this time, I was going to focus on “red”. It’s time to reach out to republicans. I want to meet McCain too, so that I can make the best choice.
Again, I wasn’t selected. Despite the wonderful support from my friends, family and viewers.
But I’m determined to get to the conventions regardless. It would have been nice to be on the inside. But let’s face it. I’m used to being the outsider in politics.
Note to self: If at first you don’t succeed, try again. If you don’t succeed the second time, try a new approach.
I’m going to the conventions. I just need to figure out how.
